| Vinyl decals are graphics that are machine cut out of sheets of vinyl. The blade is extremely sharp, but not very harmful due to its size and shape. It is designed to cut just deep enough, 2-3mm, through the vinyl, but not through the wax liner that the vinyl is adhered to.
After the machine is done, the vinyl that is not part of the design is removed. This process is called "weeding". After the excess is removed, all that should be left is the final design. Low-tac masking tape is then applied over the remaining graphic to it can be transferred in one piece and lined
up properly during installation. The tape also ensures the decal is not damaged during the next steps. After installed, the wax liner and masking tape are removed, only leaving the precision-cut design from the beginning. See the photo below.
